West Singapore Awarded at AmCham CARES For Corporate and Societal Excellence
We are pleased to share that West has received the Distinction Award of the AmCham Singapore CARES initiative, which is a further testament to West’s continued commitment as a good corporate citizen and our contributions on making a positive impact in the communities we serve.
Our Singapore team has a long tradition of community involvement. During the past 12 years, West without Borders, our employee-led giving program, has kept making a positive impact in the communities through financial support and volunteerism. Throughout the pandemic, West Singapore has contributed to a variety of meaningful social causes such as Children’s Cancer Foundation, Food from the Heart and Singapore Food Bank, standing by the side of communities to combat the consequences of the virus and demonstrating a commitment to helping build a healthier world. The spirit of philanthropy and giving back to the community are consistent with West’s desire for continued progress on our commitment to building a sustainable business for the future.
Stewart Campbell, Vice President & General Manager, Emerging Markets – AP & SAR, received the award on behalf of West and delivered opening remarks at the AmCham Singapore’s Annual General Meeting. He shared, “At West, we take corporate responsibility very seriously and our teams are focused on making a positive impact on the communities where we live and work, and with the customers we serve. Our Singapore team is a key part of our global manufacturing network, contributing to over 45 billion components and devices delivered by West each year to support our customers and patients. The team also has a long tradition of community involvement, and I am truly heartened to lead an organization with such a heart.”
AmCham Singapore CARES is a platform to benchmark and share best practices, as well as encourage member companies to improve their current corporate social responsibility programs. It requires companies to meet certain criteria with their pre-existing CSR programs, assessed on four main factors including communications, measurement, strategy, and sustainability.

In the pharmaceutical industry, it is well known that: <em>The drug product picks the package</em>. Not all package systems are compatible with a particular drug product.
For many years, West has targeted its philanthropic efforts to support charities focused on children, people with disabilities, healthcare and education, with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) — all within the communities in which our team members live and work. The Company’s giving strategy focuses on three elements: Corporate Giving through direct charitable gifts made by West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc.; the Herman O. West Foundation, an independently managed 501(c)(3) entity, which awards scholarships and matching gifts; and West without Borders*, our team member-led giving program.
Electron-beam irradiation (<em>e-beam </em>- sometimes called beta irradiation) is a technique used commonly to sterilize pharmaceutical packaging products and medical devices. It operates by directing a continuous flow of electrons through the articles being sterilized. Transfer of energy from the e-beam breaks the chains of DNA in organisms, rendering them inactive, and the articles irradiated as sterile. It is used typically for Ready-to-Use (RU) vials and syringes comprising Daikyo Crystal Zenith® cyclic olefin polymer, and Daikyo PLASCAP® seal products.

West is pleased to announce that it will begin distribution of a new Daikyo offering – the DAIKYO PLASCAP® RUV one-step press-fit vial closure solution for serum applications. DAIKYO PLASCAP RUV features an integrated stopper and plastic cap, offered in nested configuration for small-batch filling. The closure system offers an alternative to aluminum seals.
Particulates in injectable drug products continue to be an area of great interest in the industry. The main reason is the potential clinical effects on patients, which can range from emboli to inflammations to infections. There are a series of clinical risk factors that should be considered in evaluating and mitigating these challenges. These factors are route of administration, patient population, and particulate composition (i.e., number, size, and shape). All are critical inputs to understanding risk and determining corrective and preventative actions.
